Easy skincare routine for winter

I’m sure I speak for many of us when I say that finding good skincare that works for your specific skin type is a case of trial and error. I’ve parted with many a penny testing products that promise to be the saving grace for irritated skin. For me, winter is the the season when the efficacy of these products is truly put to the test – dewy is the dream!

I’ve suffered with eczema most of my life and feel like I’ve tried a myriad of skincare brands and routines to try and keep dry flaky skin, and incidentally, blemishes at bay. But, I finally think I’ve sussed it. I’ve been testing a new skincare regime for the past few months and so far my skin has looked and felt SO much better. I’m intrigued to see what happens when the central heating gets turned up and I come face to face with the chilly weather but for now, these products are working a treat…

Morning routine

Leaving the cosiness of your bed to dismiss your alarm on a Monday morning is akin to drinking cold tea. But giving yourself enough time to get your skin prepped for the day will make you feel so much better and energised. I was a little late to the game with Liz Earle’s hot cloth cleanser and now fully understand why this staple product has a tribe of loyal followers. The creamy cleanser is perfect for making skin feel hydrated and removing any built-up debris from the day. The cleanser prescribes you remove the cream with a muslin cloth but I find these a little too harsh on my sensitive skin so I use cotton wool instead. When my skin is feeling particularly dry, I’ll use Balmonds Omega- Rich Cleansing Oil. I also try and keep make-up to a minimum so I can reapply moisturises during the day if needed.

After splashing my face with cool water I massage a couple of drops of The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum into my skin (an absolute steal at just over £10 for 60ml). This has really helped alleviate flakiness and smooth my overall complexion, it’s also available at Boots so you can bag some points!

Now, when it comes to moisturisers I’ve tried a plethora, but often these fail at keeping my skin hydrated all day. I discovered Weleda Skin Food about a year ago and it has honestly been a real game changer. It’s thick and sticky (which I love) yet doesn’t clog my pores and cause blemishes. I’ll follow this with La Roche Posay SPF 30 and I’m ready for the day.

Evening routine

Taking off make-up at night is akin to whipping off my bra when I get in from work – amirite? I like to use an oily cleanser to take my make-up off, sometimes I repeat this twice (double cleanse) depending on how much make-up I’m wearing. Balmonds Omega Rich Cleansing Oil works a treat for me, it’s 100% natural and makes my skin feel really soft and soothed, particularly if it’s dry. Following this, I’ll use Liz Earle’s Instant Boost Skin Tonic to ensure my skin is completely clean and then a couple of drops of The Ordinary serum shortly followed by Weleda Skin Food. Top this off with a good night’s sleep and it’s a recipe for soft, happy skin.
